Communicating Your Impact: Evaluation and Prevention
Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Registration Deadline: Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012. Walk-in registrations will not be accepted.

This workshop will provide a brief overview of the role of evaluation in prevention programs. Participants will learn about the process of evaluation with a particular emphasis on the Getting to Outcomes (GTO) model created by Fisher, Imm, Chinman and Wandersman. Participants will then be asked to engage in a discussion about how the ASAP Center can best support building the capacity of prevention agencies to conduct evaluation.

Who should attend?
Staff members of prevention agencies, including those implementing the 40 Developmental Assets, seeking to learn more about how to evaluate their programs. The workshop will offer an overview of evaluation in prevention programs, and set the agenda for future capacity building workshops on this topic.

Minimize Risk - Maximize Life: A Low-Risk Drinking Course for Adults
Friday, May 4, 2012, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Registration Deadline: Friday, April 27, 2012. Walk-in registrations will not be accepted.

In this workshop, you will learn about adult prevention, and what it means to "drink responsibly". This program is centered on a research-based curriculum that will teach you how much is too much, and how often is too often in regards to alcohol consumption.

Participants will learn about:

  • The role of advertising in decision-making
  • Alcohol and the body
  • Standard drinks and low-risk drinking guidelines
  • Risky drinking decisions and tolerance
  • Integrating the guidelines into their lives

Presenters:
Lori Higgins, M.Ed., Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist and licensed social worker; Jennifer Benson, Ohio Prevention Specialist II; Christi Valentini, program coordinator for substance abuse prevention for youth.

Who should attend?
Anyone who would like to know how to change attitudes and social norms about alcohol consumption should attend. This may include professional and laypeople in social work, prevention, education, counseling, ministry, community centers, retirement communities, EAPs/workplaces, coaching, and parenting groups.

Continuing Education:
3.75 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for Ohio social workers.
