Advocacy and Policy

  • The Alcoholism Council of the Cincinnati Area (NCADDM) strives to be a leading resource and advocate on alcohol and other drug use and to promote effective solutions to these problems.
  • Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) works to strengthen the capacity of community coalitions to create and maintain safe, healthy and drug-free communities. CADCA supports its members with training and technical assistance, public policy advocacy, media strategies and marketing programs, conferences and special events.
  • The Minnesota Institute of Public Health (MIPH) sponsors projects that create awareness, promote prevention, and educate and develop community standards for addressing public health issues.
  • Mothers Against Drug Driving (MADD) is an organization with the mission of stopping drunk driving, supporting the victims of this violent crime, and preventing underage drinking.
  • National Families in Action aims to help families and communities prevent drug use among children by promoting policies based on science.
  • The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) bringing the power of science to bear on drug use and addiction. This charge has two critical components: strategically supporting and conducting research across a broad range of disciplines; and ensuring the rapid and effective dissemination and use of the results of the research to significantly improve prevention, treatment, and policy as it relates to drug use and addiction.
  • Office of National Drug Control Policy works to establish policies, priorities, and objectives for the Nation's drug control program.
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) administers programs, policies, and grants toward the outcome of building resilience and facilitating recovery for people with or at risk of substance use disorders.

  • CincyBoard serves as a clearinghouse for local educational opportunities and information for current and potential members of non-profit boards. It also links to resources on the web to help in a variety of non-profit board management and governance issues.
  • Join Together is a provider of current news, research and funding opportunities for people working in the fields of tobacco, alcohol, and drug prevention and treatment.
  • ReSource is committed to providing merchandise and support services to qualified non-profit members through collaboration with businesses, funders and other non-profit entities.
  • The Search Institute is an independent non-profit organization that provides leadership, knowledge, and resources to promote healthy children, youth, and communities. At the heart of the institute's work is the framework of 40 Developmental Assets, which are positive experiences and personal qualities that young people need to in order to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.

    • The American Council for Drug Education is a nationally-acclaimed substance abuse prevention and education center.
    • Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University is a non-profit organization that aims to inform Americans of the economic and social costs of substance abuse and its impact on their lives, as well as to remove the stigma of substance abuse and replace shame and despair with hope.

    • The National Latino Council on Alcohol and Tobacco Prevention (LCAT)

  • Local resources for the Greater Cincinnati Area

    • The Alcoholism Council of the Cincinnati Area (NCADDM) strives to be a leading resource and advocate on alcoholism and other drug abuse and to promote effective solutions to these and other related problems.
    • The Coalition for a Drug-Free Greater Cincinnati serves a 10-county region in the area where Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana converge. The Coalition partners with member neighborhood coalitions in our area to localize efforts to delay the age at which youth begin using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; decrease the number of youth using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; increase youth perception of personal harms associated with using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; and increase the frequency of youth and parents who express their disapproval of youth alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.

  • Youth-Oriented Resources

    • The Anti-Drug serves as a drug prevention information center, and a supportive community for parents to interact and learn from each other.
    • Above the Influence was created for the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, a program of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Its goal is to provide teens with the knowledge and personal empowerment to reject drug use and other risky behaviors.
    • Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation's largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network. The organization makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers and children ages 6 to 18. These positive relationships have a lasting and measurable impact on the lives of young people.
    • The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse helps college and community leaders develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies to reduce student problems related to alcohol and other drug use and interpersonal violence.

Recovery

  • Hazelden helps people recover from alcoholism and other drug addiction, provides inpatient and outpatient treatment for families and individuals.
  • National Association for Children of Alcoholics advocates for all children and families affected by alcoholism and other drug dependencies.

  • A Judicial Round Table on Underage Drinking is moderated by Judge Linda Chezem, (Ret) Indiana Superior Court, at the 2010 OJJDP's Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws conference hosted by the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). .
